We like hardcore mode (the score based mode feels like an arbitrary goal and doesn't provide much incentative not to die), but we want to reach the end of the level before progressing to the next.

We don't really understand how "max server resets" work - we were playing the LSM maps, and were confused after all dying about twice, when we got whisked away to the second level before we'd even completed the first, because previously, it automatically restarted the map for us if we died.

We figure its best to play in a way that keeps you re-trying till you complete it without dying, maybe with spawn points, or lives, or replenishing life packs (the latter seem to be in the maps), but the "max server resets" setting seems to be getting in the way.

Any advice?

The cvar si_maprestarts controls how many times a map will restart before advancing to the next level. You can set it to a very high number so that you will have a chance to complete a map before advancing. The only problem is that the LMS do not advance to the next map when they are completed like the SP maps do. This means that even if you complete a map, it will just restart again if si_maprestarts has not counted down to 0. Setting si_maprestarts to a large number and then voting for a map change when you finish a map will most likely do what you want.

the hardcore mode could be really be great in the last stages of LMS if the team decides to put in the class based system. medics to heal, slow heavy gunners to attack, quick assualt guys to flank masses of enemies, etc. coop games in general have so much potential, but it takes a lot of time to develop. i personally havent played hardcore mode much because im not good enough to last all the way through most maps Very Happy

It would nice if lms switches automaticly to hardcore mode when you are playing kf map and when you move to another type ( prog or def ) then it would change back Razz

Hmmm, good idea. I was thinking the same thing a couple months back, but don't know if I ever mentioned it.
